Future of Work @ UZHMobile Work Project

Zurich (Switzerland) — December 2023

The ways we work are changing - quite disruptively during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, but also continuously due to technological and societal developments. At the University of Zurich, we wish to shape these changes based on evidence and co-creation, rather than by simply letting them happen. So far, research has shown that a balanced mix between on-site and remote work is most beneficial in terms of productivity, creativity, and well-being. This research is the foundation for the UZH Mobile Working Model.

However, when introducing this working model, the University Executive Board has been well aware of the diversity of demands and needs within our university. Therefore, they commissioned the Center for Leadership in the Future of Work to better understand this diversity and to explore best practices of mobile working in the project “Future of Work @ UZH: Mobile Working”.

The project, led by Prof. Dr. Jochen Menges and Dr. Jennifer Sparr, included the delivery of an university-wide employee survey on mobile working in 2022 and a pilot project in the fall semester 2022/2023 with 11 professors and their team representing the diversity of all faculties at UZH.

You can find the results of the UZH Mobile Work Survey below and the overall project results in the short Best Practices Video above. You can also read about the project results in our Annual Report 2022 and 2023.
