Your colleague has misbehaved or made you angry? Think carefully about how you formulate the criticism. A study shows: Understanding is the key to being heard.

Prof. Dr. Lauren Howe advises to first ask yourself, "What challenges is the group or person I'm attacking facing?" Then you should signal that you care about your counterpart but don't think their behavior is okay. Whether the feedback is directed at fellow employees, superiors or groups, she says, "People who deliver critical messages are more persuasive if they deliver the criticism thoughtfully."
