The book is written by Dr. Daniel Fasnacht, who lectures at the University of Zurich on trends, digital transformation, disruptive technologies and business model innovations. It explores the transformative power of open and digital ecosystems, projected to constitute one-third of global trade by 2030. The book unveils how value creation transcends organizational boundaries, placing the consumer at the epicenter. Through a convergence of industries and technologies, the narrative unfolds the experiential customer journey, propelled by innovations such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and quantum computing. Examining exemplar companies like Alibaba, Tencent, NIO, Alphabet, Apple, Amazon, and Migros, the book provides deep insights and practical applications, guiding businesses on leveraging these revolutionary models for growth, knowledge exchange, and agile resilience. Furthermore, it features the Global HR Valley, founded by the Center for Leadership in the Future of Work (CLFW), showcasing the pivotal role of human-centric approaches in shaping the future of work.

Global HR Valley Spotlight: A Human-Centered Future of Work

As highlighted in this illuminating work, the Global HR Valley is a mission-driven innovation ecosystem launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos 2020, aiming to generate breakthrough innovations, creating both discontinuity and new sources of value. Its purpose is to elevate humans in the future of work.

The book presents the four major leadership issues in the future of work based on the CLFW’s research:

  1. Focus on technological innovation in the future of work, but neglect of people

  2. Dealing with one crisis after another, but ignoring emotions as the common denominator

  3. Relying on experience rather than evidence to solve human problems

  4. Looking at human challenges in isolation when they should be addressed collaboratively

The book explores the Global HR Valley as a catalyst for leadership qualities essential in orchestrating an ecosystem. Drawing inspiration from renowned technology ecosystems like Silicon Valley, seven different stakeholder groups interact in a climate of openness, collaboration and symbiosis, with a competitive spirit that pushes one another beyond their limits and allows them to thrive. The CLFW, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Jochen Menges, plays a central role in shaping this ecosystem.

The three core activities at the heart of the ecosystem are:

  2. Inspire: Curating evidence-based learning journeys to equip leaders with the skills needed to tackle future challenges.
